Reach Out and Help Haitian Earthquake Victims (1/14/10)
As images have poured out of Haiti in the wake of Tuesday's earthquake, American and Canadian families have been stunned by the scale of devastation in a country that has long been among the poorest in the world. It has been estimated that as many as 3 million Haitians have been left homeless by the quake, and the number of dead and injured continues to soar.
"This tragedy has touched the lives of our union's members throughout the U.S. and Canada, but none so much as those with loved ones in Haiti," said RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum.
"It's not enough to give them our sympathy," Appelbaum said, "We also need to dig deep and give whatever we can to help Haiti rebuild," Appelbaum added.
To help the survivors of the Haiti earthquake, Appelbaum is urging RWDSU members to make generous donations to the Earthquake Relief for Haitian Workers Campaign, a special program created by the AFL-CIO Solidarity Center. The Solidarity Center has a special webpage to find out more about the relief effort and make a secure on-line donation.
