New York Governor David A. Paterson today joined Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union President Stuart Appelbaum at SYMS Department Store on Park Avenue in New York City to purchase gifts that will be donated to families in need during the holiday season. SYMS Workers are represented by RWDSU Local 1102.
The Governor purchased two children’s snow suits, two hats, two pair of gloves and a scarf for a family to keep warm during the winter months, and thanked New York's retail workers for keeping the economy moving during the holiday season.
“During this holiday season, and especially as we are in the midst of an economic downturn, every little bit helps individuals and families who are most in need. It is the least we can do to bring a little holiday cheer into our communities,” said Governor Paterson. “I’d like to thank RWDSU and the countless retail workers in New York City and State for their hard work to keep our economy going during these difficult times. On behalf of my family and all New Yorkers, I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.”
“Retail workers have it especially tough during the holiday season working long hours under tremendous stress and pressure. We appreciate Governor Paterson taking the time to recognize their enormous contributions to our city and State economy as we celebrate the season,” Appelbaum said.
