CEPR Report Shows Union Advantage (2/26/10)

A report from the Center for Economic Policy and Research shows what union members already know: that union membership substantially raises wages and benefits for workers. The study, “The Unions of the States,” finds that in the typical state, unionization is associated with a 15 percent increase in hourly wages, a roughly $2.50 advantage per hour over non-union workers.

Unionization is also associated with a 19-percentage-point increase in the likelihood of having employer-provided health insurance and a 24-percentage-point increase in the likelihood of having employer-sponsored retirement plans.
