Urge President Obama to Appoint Nominees to Ensure Fair NLRB (2/16/10)

Labor activists were outraged last week when the nomination of respected labor lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board stalled in the Senate. The Senate blocked Becker's nomination as Democrats fell short of the 60 votes needed to break a Republican-led filibuster.

The vote also cast doubts on the chances of the approval of Mark Pearce, another nominee for the NLRB with a strong pro-worker background.

The failure of the White House to ensure the appointment of Becker and Pearce leaves the NLRB with only two members and three vacancies. The NLRB supervises union elections and referees disputes between employers and employees.

"Working people have waited long enough for a National Labor Relations Board that will protect workers' rights by fighting against unfair labor practices and ensuring fair union elections," said RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum. "It's past time for the NLRB to consist of fair, qualified members instead of being crippled by vacancies."

You can help by writing to the White House urging President Obama to use his executive power to appoint Becker and Pearce to the NLRB during this week's Senate Recess.

In addition, you can call the White House switchboard at 202-456-1111 or 202-456-1414 and urge the President to fight for his nominees to the NLRB.
