RWDSU Endorses DiNapoli for New York State Comptroller (2/11/10)

The RWDSU endorsed New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today in the 2010 elections, giving New York's chief financial officer his first major endorsement in the upcoming elections. At an announcement at City Hall in New York City, RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum cited the accomplishments of the New York State Comptroller's office under DiNapoli's leadership in announcing the union's support.

"As Comptroller, Tom has uncovered $1.8 billion in waste and fraud. He has increased transparency and accountability at every level of government. He has audited all of the school districts in the state, uncovering hundreds of millions of dollars in cost savings to benefit property tax payers," Appelbaum said.

"Tom understands what these difficult economic times mean to working men and women. He understands their struggles to make ends meet and provide a decent life for themselves and their families. He understands that they want Albany to spend their tax dollars wisely and that government can and must be a part of the economic solution," Appelbaum added.

DiNapoli thanked the union for its support:

"I grew up in a union household and I've always been proud of my middle class roots," DiNapoli said. "The labor movement has stood up for the economic security of families like mine and I'm honored to have the support of great labor unions like the RWDSU."
