Health care is a basic human right. The labor movement has always worked for what helps working men and women of this country and is proud to continue to work for guaranteed high-quality health care for everyone. The Affordable Care Act is an important milestone in striving toward the goal of no man, woman or child suffering because they cannot afford help, but we still have a long way to go.
Health insurance more and more is becoming the number one issue that holds up contract negotiations in every industry all over the country. This is why America must continue moving toward a more cost-effective health care system. We cannot move forward alone. This is a major concern for employers as well so we must find ways to work with them to control costs that are rising out of control. The worst thing we could do is start moving backwards by repealing laws and putting health insurance out of reach for more people or taxing the employment based health care system.
