RWDSU news from across North America
For years, workers at A.T. Wall, who produce magazines for military weapons, have done so with the protection and benefits of a union contract. Workers at the Rhode Island plant are members of Local 599. And now, the RWDSU family at A.T. Wall has grown thanks to a successful organizing campaign that expands the membership at the plant.
In December, workers were part of a different unit in the company that wasn’t covered by an RWDSU contract. The workers had issues including low pay and not enough time off, and enthusiastically took part in the organizing drive. With overwhelming support, workers voted to join RWDSU Local 599, and after brief negotiations, are now covered by the same contract as other A.T. Wall workers.
That means the new members will see raises of almost $1 per hour instantly, as well as getting the additional paid vacation and sick days they were seeking. The current contract runs through the end of 2018.
