RETAIL, WHOLESALE AND DEPARTMENT STORE UNION ENDORSES
BRIAN BENJAMIN FOR STATE SENATE
Highlights Benjamin’s Support for New Good Jobs in the District, Increased Wages and Worker Protections and an end to the Carwash Tip Credit and Abusive On-Call Scheduling Practices
NEW YORK, NY – Today, President Stuart Appelbaum of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), whose membership includes more than 45,000 men and women in New York, announced the union’s endorsement of Brian Benjamin for State Senate.
“Brian is a tenacious advocate for his community and I know he will fight to ensure residents of Harlem can afford to live and work there,” said Stuart Appelbaum, President, Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union (RWDSU). “New York City’s workforce needs a leader who will fight to end the abusive practice of on-call scheduling, which makes it impossible for workers to plan their lives; and a voice for the City’s carwash workers, whose wages are often siphoned due to a loophole in Albany’s tipped wages laws – Brian is that leader and his voice will amplify the voices of New York’s workers in Albany.”
“I'm honored to have the endorsement of the men and women of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union,” said State Senate candidate Brian Benjamin. “I look forward to working with RWDSU as the next State Senator for the 30th District to fight for working families and ensure they're protected from abusive scheduling and wage practices. Steady, living wage employment is the cornerstone to prosperity for so many families in our community, and I intend to make their needs a top priority in Albany.”
